Fluvanna Supervisors Clean House, Firing Staff

By William Des Rochers, Fluvanna Field Officer

Planning Director and former acting county administrator Darren Coffey has been fired over the pay increase scandal enveloping Fluvanna County. The supervisors announced this after emerging from a closed session on Wednesday night. Also fired were Finance Director Renee Hoover, county engineer John Robins, Parks and Recreation Director Dwight Godwin, and the human resources director.

The purge leaves the county with only one staff member supervising any personnel: Garland Nuckles of the public works department.

  1. You really should ask Goochland County about their experience with Robinson Farmer Cox, their one-time auditors (ref–BOS chair Ned Creasy & others). What they did or did not do may lie at the heart of what has been happening in Fluvanna. Their hallmark is being called on to re-look at things that went wrong (financially) during their tenure and getting paid again for it. Awards to staff for good work? Nothing personal to individual county staff members (many of whom are no doubt very competent), but remember that nowadays everyone gets an award, from grade school on up. And having happy county staff gets auditors rehired!
